There is confusion as people look to discover who they are, as well as frustration, when their self-worth falls far from expectations, affecting their self-image and self-worth. When someone makes a promise to you, the fulfillment of their promise stands for as long as they live. But when God makes a promise to you, the fulfillment of His promise stands for as long as He lives - His promise stands forever. On Christmas day, God made three eternal promises to the virgin Mary. Every Christmas, God also makes three eternal promises to you. Will you believe in His promises like Mary did?

The virgin birth is very central to Christian teaching which is why it occupies an important part in the Apostles Creed. Human beings were created for fellowship with God. But, because of sin, such fellowship and intimacy is not possible because God is holy. We need a mediator, someone who can bridge the gap between us and God. Human sin has three consequences. We are Ignorant of God, guilty before God, and subject to the tyranny of sin. Christ is our mediator, fulfilling the threefold office of prophet, priest and king. As prophet, he removes our ignorance, as priest, by his Sacrifice of himself, he removes our guilt, and as King he delivers us from our bondage to sin.

The wrath of God is one of the difficult realities that confront the church. Often used as an objection by those who do not want to cede Lordship to to their creator, we can find this aspect embarrassing, something to downplay, avoid in conversations, or even feel we should apologise for. What is divine wrath? Does it still apply to the New Testament God? what does it mean for those redeemed by Jesus?

There is no other attribute of God that turns us off more than His holiness. As a result, we have a natural tendency to turn down - if not completely turn off - God's holiness. But when we separate God's holiness from other attributes such as His justice, presence, wrath, patience, love, we end up worshiping an idol of our own creation, not God Almighty. This is a second statement about God in the Apostles Creed. The creed celebrates God's almighty power, not only in bringing the world into existence, but in providentially caring for it. Importantly, it elaborates the previous words of the creed by drawing attention to the fact that the one who has such power over creation is our Father who was thus able o providentially care, not only for creation as a whole, but specially for his children.

Earlier in the story we read that the people demanded a King. God and Samuel were not pleased as this demand expressed a rebellious desire to be like the other nations, and a rejection of God as king. But despite this, God agreed to this demand. Divorces, sexual immorality, death of loved ones, unbelieving children, unemployment, cancer, guilt, constant temptations, mental breakdowns, doubts. We live in a broken world due to sin. God has given us His authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy (luke 10:19). Many believers do not know what kind of authority God has given to us and as a result, we are not able to use it for our victory.
To know Christ has `all authority is given unto Him' (Matt 28:18) and to follow and obey Him. We can know God's authority through His word. We can use Christ's name to command His authority and power. We can command authority in the power of Jesus' blood.

We all know (or should know!) that adultery is wrong. But did you know that according to Jesus, looking at someone with lustful intent is considered adultery? How seriously should we take this? If we are to believe Jesus (and we should!) He warns that not dealing with adultery puts us in danger of being thrown into hell. How does lust develop? And how are we to deal with it?
