A PLACE TO… bow down and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Philippians 2:9-11
It’s not about us. It’s about our Lord Jesus Christ.
Share Christ・Grow in Christ・Serve Christ
KCC is a multi-cultural local church within the Kelston community, where members of the body of Christ join together to carry out acts of love, serve one another, are accountable to one another and encourage one another to live uncompromising lives. As a church, our diverse members, ranging from the elderly to infants, are united in our programmes devoted to biblical teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread and prayer (Acts 2:42). We seek to live and enjoy God through every word that comes from His mouth (Matthew 4:4).
KCC: A brief history
Kelston Community Church (KCC) has two streams of origin. The original KCC began in the 1960s as a church-plant from the New Lynn Bible Chapel (then known as Elim Gospel Hall). It flourished for many years but by the mid-1990s it was suffering from dwindling numbers.
In the meantime, a new immigration law, which came into effect in 1991, saw an increase in migrants from different parts of Asia. As a consequence, a few families from Malaysia began to attend Lincoln Road Bible Chapel (LRBC) from about 1995. Following the initiative of Raymond Koh, then a student at the Bible College of New Zealand, the group established the Asian Christian Fellowship (ACF), with the intention of evangelising and nurturing Asian immigrants, especially English-speaking immigrants from Malaysia and Singapore. The group held monthly meetings at LRBC. Other activities included social events and an annual camp. It was not long before the leaders were thinking and praying about launching a new church which would be more congenial to immigrant newcomers. God directed their thinking to the Kelston Community Church which had so dwindled in numbers that they were considering closing down and disposing of the property.
Contact was made with the remaining small group. This led to a real meeting of hearts and minds. Consequently, a merger took place on April 14, 1996 and was, in God’s goodness, extremely successful. The church, which commenced with about thirty members, began to grow in numbers and the leadership foresaw the need for expansion. Providentially in Archibald Road there was just one vacant section and that was next to the church. KCC was able to purchase this, thus providing sufficient parking space to allow for new building in the future.
Growth continued over the years. The various ministries of KCC are listed elsewhere in this booklet and have played an important part in the growth of the church. Over the years significant numbers have come to faith and been baptised. The church has not only grown in numbers but also in ethnic spread. As a consequence, we emphasise that we are an international church. The present Chapel was built in 2013. For all that has happened we give God the glory and look to him in faith for the years ahead.
